The cornerstone of Montgomery County's Asian American Health Initiative (AAHI) is the provision of quality health education and robust community outreach. The goal of health education and community outreach is to empower individuals to take control of their health by providing them with the information and resources they need to make changes in their lives.
AAHI has developed a library of multilingual and culturally-relevant educational materials in the form of pamphlets, brochures, booklets, and posters regarding a variety of diseases and illnesses of concern to the Asian American community. Some of these materials are available for electronic download on the
Resources page of this website and are used in various health education efforts, such as through social media, the AAHI newsletter, and print media.
AAHI’s comprehensive outreach efforts serves as another major platform to share health education materials. AAHI’s outreach strategy ensures that community members both increase their knowledge of specific health concerns impacting their community, and are aware of programs, services, and other culturally-specific resources that are available to them locally.

AAHI Launches their Sixth Mental Health
Photonovel
Mental Health:
The Stress of Caring - A Journey to
Self-Care

Hello friends,
partners, and community members!
The Asian American
Health Initiative (AAHI) is thrilled to share the sixth
installment in their mental health photonovel series, Mental
Health: The Stress of Caring - A Journey to Self-Care!
Since 2015, AAHI has
developed several volumes of multilingual mental health
photonovels to address the specific mental health challenges
that face Asian Americans and to dismantle the stigma of mental
health in Asian American communities.
We are especially
excited about this newest photonovel as it tackles the unique,
and often neglected, mental health needs of Asian American
caregivers. This photonovel follows the story of Lee and Lana,
two adult siblings, who share the responsibility of caring for
their older mother. Read about their journey as caregivers and how
they learn to manage the stress of caring, while taking care of
their own mental health.
Before diving into
the photonovel, watch our short video celebrating the launch!

AAHI would like to
thank all who were involved in developing this photonovel,
including the volunteer actors, the AAHI Steering Committee,
and the Mental Health Ambassadors, a group of caregivers,
community leaders, and older adult service-providers who guided
the development of the photonovel. Without all of their
contributions, this photonovel would not be possible!
|
|
(Due to delays caused by COVID-19, a
Chinese-language version of the photonovel will be made
available at a later time.)
|
|
We invite you to view our photonovels, which
are available in English, Hindi, Korean, and Vietnamese, in our
Resource Library and share them with your friends and
neighbors!
