Montgomery County Faith Community Advisory Council

FCAC E-blast | August 3, 2020

Faith In Action on Racial Equity

All faith traditions attest to justice and equality for everyone in our human family. Yet worship services are often segregated, and faith leaders struggle with how to create a more inclusive and equitable Montgomery County.

On Thursday, August 13, 4-5:30 pm, presented by Silver Spring Town Center, Inc. (SSTCi) in collaboration with the Faith Community Advisory Council (FCAC), four faith leaders will define the meaning of racial equity and describe how their faith communities are dealing with systemic racism and working with others toward achieving racial equity.

Census Weekend

Faith communities are being asked to encourage volunteers to be engaged throughout the Census Weekend of August 7-10 and beyond to October 31. Promotion in all services of worship and newsletters are sought because more than 1 in 4 households in Montgomery County have not responded to the Census. It means we could lose 4.6 billion dollars in federal and state funds over the next 10 years for hospitals, schools and social services.

Take 10 minutes to be counted now – 2020census.gov or call
1-844-330-2020

Volunteers Needed for Census Weekend

Please visit the Volunteer Center website to register and sign up for an upcoming event. Adding promotional materials to the work your food distribution and healthcare programs will also help. Remember to tell others that if the Census is not completed before August 11 they will be contacted by the Census Bureau.

Reopening Assistance Grants Available to Faith Communities

The “Reopen Montgomery Small Business Grant Program,” which was created by the Montgomery County Council with the support of County Executive Marc Elrich, was launched, Wednesday, July 29, has $14 million available to help businesses, nonprofits and faith communities with grants that could be as much as $5,000.

Businesses, nonprofits and faith communities may be eligible for grants for reopening expenditures they have incurred related to health and safety requirements from the State and County for reopening their business between March 16, 2020, and 30 days following the date when the County starts Phase 3 reopening. The County is still operating under Phase 2 reopening guidelines.

Details on the program and application information—in English and Spanish—can be found at https://montgomerycountymd.gov/biz-resources/reopen/
