Pain Warrior of the Month: Katie Benson

Age: 41 years young

Location: Fredericksburg, VA

Pain warrior role: Advocate since 2017 and support group leader since 2020

Health conditions: Trigeminal neuralgia, chronic migraine, and hypothyroidism (due to thyroid cancer).

Tip for pain warriors: "Take the time to get to know your new 'chronic pain self.' Go easy on yourself. Self-care is key! Make sure you have a support system and take it one day at a time."

Fun fact: "I love to do art projects in my pain-free time. My favorite chore is laundry! My favorite color is red. I was adopted in Atlanta, Georgia."

Pain Connection also offers state-based support groups over Zoom. States include Arizona, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North and South Carolina, Ohio, and Oregon.

 

Pain Connection is also providing three specialized support groups over Zoom each month for caregivers/care partners, LGBTQ+ individuals, and veterans.
