Mamma Roma film image

MAMMA ROMA

August 30, 2021

Pier Paolo Pasolini, Italy, 1962, 110 minutes, B & W Italian (English subtitles)

Anna Magnani is Mamma Roma, a middle-aged prostitute who attempts to extricate herself from her sordid past for the sake of her son. Filmed in the great tradition of Italian neorealism, Mamma Roma offers an unflinching look at the struggle for survival in postwar Italy, and highlights director Pier Paolo Pasolini’s lifelong fascination with the marginalized and dispossessed. Though banned upon its release in Italy for obscenity, today Mamma Roma remains a classic, featuring a powerhouse performance by one of cinema’s greatest actresses and offering a glimpse at a country’s most controversial director in the process of finding his style.

Angst film image

"Angst" Film Screening and Mental Health Panel, Sept. 30 6:30-8pm

The SHaW Center is excited to partner with EveryMind to bring a screening of the documentary "Angst" the Montgomery College. This film works to remove the stigma and open up the conversation around anxiety, helping people understand and manage their symptoms, and when to reach out for help. Most importantly, it shows people that they are not alone, and that anxiety is treatable.

You can view the film's trailer here: https://www.indieflix.com/angst

Following the film, we will hold a panel discussion about mental health, anxiety, and its impacts on not just the person struggling with those feelings, but the people who care about them.

Register now at bit.ly/SHaWAngst. For event flyer, click here.

**This event is open to ALL in the community**
