Senior Call Check Program - A Free, Low-tech, Life Saving Service

Recently, a Rockville Police Officer and a Senior Center employee were recognized for their life-saving
actions. An older adult living alone had fallen and was on the floor of her home for FOUR DAYS!

After a regular attendee of Rockville Senior Center was absent for several days, Senior Center employee Gerry Jones called her. When she didn't answer, Gerry drove to her home and found several days of newspapers and mail outside. He called 911 and Rockville Police Officer Tyler Haines responded. They got into her home and found the woman injured. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance and is now recovering.

To prevent residents from repeating such an ordeal, residents can sign up for a free service provided by the Maryland Department of Aging. The Senior Call Check Program is for any Maryland resident 65 years old or older. The program calls residents once a day to make sure everything is okay. If the call isn’t picked up, the Senior Call Check staff will call emergency contacts, or they will call 911. Sign up for Senior Call Check by calling 866-502-0560 or by going to https://aging.maryland.gov/Pages/senior-call-check.aspx
