June 9 Webinar: BRFSS and Dementia Caregiving
The new Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Caregiving is sponsoring a caregiving webinar on Wednesday, June 9 from 2:30-4 p.m. ET. Officials from North Dakota and New Jersey will discuss how their states have used data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) Caregiving Module to advance the public health agenda of dementia caregiving. Participants will also learn about effective public health communication strategies and discuss ideas for using BRFSS data to support dementia caregivers in their states. Register in advance.

June 10 Webinar: Alzheimer's, HBI and Public Health Curriculum
Join the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) on Thursday, June 10 from 3-4 p.m. ET for an introductory webinar on Alzheimer's, dementia and the public health response. Speakers from the Alzheimer's Association will describe the current and future burden of dementia, describe the role of public health in fighting Alzheimer’s, and provide an overview of the Healthy Brain Initiative. Participants will learn about the Alzheimer’s public health curriculum, which is designed to educate the current and future public health workforce on these issues. Register in advance. (Registration requires a SOPHE account, which is free to create).

June 16 Webinar: How Local Health Departments Address Alzheimer’s
Join the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) on Wednesday, June 16 from 4-5 p.m. ET for Engaging Locally: How Local Health Departments Address Alzheimer’s. Register in advance.

Webinar attendees will learn about the innovative approaches that two local health departments (LHDs) — San Diego County and Boston — have taken. Using the Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map, these two LHDs and their partners incorporated healthy aging into existing public health work and were able to increase attention on older adults, cognitive health, and dementia. Participants will hear about the activities undertaken in San Diego and Boston as well as learn tips and best practices in addressing Alzheimer’s in their communities, including using NACCHO’s Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) framework.

The webinar will also include information about a new opportunity for LHDs to receive funding, training, and technical assistance to build their capacity in advancing cognitive health. Please register in advance and forward this announcement to any interested colleagues.
