Home Sharing 101 Home sharing can reduce social isolation, create monthly income for homeowners, and generate new affordable housing options for home seekers. The new Montgomery County Home Sharing Program assists homeowners offering spare rooms in their home for rent to home seekers searching for affordable, healthy and safe housing for longer than six months. This innovative partnership between Housing Initiative Partnership, a nonprofit, and Montgomery County’s Department of Health & Human Services provides free access to the Silvernest online matching platform. HIP’s certified housing counselors help homeowners and home seekers identify personal preferences, navigate the online platform, and carefully assess potential matches. A Workshop on Grief: Understanding the Process and How to Support Others Who Are Grieving Dr. Jim Rossi - Director of Adult Bereavement at Caring Matters - presents on issues related to grief and grieving. He discusses COVID-19's effect on grief, how to get help in grieving, learning to live without the physical presence of the one who died and how to support others who are grieving. The Supreme Court with Roman Martinez Roman Martinez is a partner in the D.C. law firm Latham & Watkins. He’s a member of the firm’s Supreme Court & Appellate Practice, focusing primarily on appeals in the Supreme Court of the United States, the U. S. Courts of Appeal, and state appellate courts. Roman worked on civil and criminal matters involving a wide range of constitutional, statutory, and administrative law issues. He argued nine cases in the Supreme Court, including cases in the fields of the First Amendment to the Constitution, criminal law, civil rights, employment, and civil procedure. He also works on pro bono cases, mainly involving veterans’ affairs. Martinez personally argued nine cases in the Supreme Court, including important cases in the fields of the First Amendment, patent law, criminal law, civil rights, employment, and civil procedure. He has filed more than 75 briefs in the Supreme Court involving a wide range of legal issues, including tax, securities, intellectual property, criminal, environmental, education, civil rights, and First Amendment law. Over the past two years, Mr. Martinez has led Latham appellate teams in cases involving the First Amendment, Administrative Procedure Act, securities, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), products liability, tort, criminal, and employment law. He persuaded the Supreme Court to grant certiorari in three cases over the past two Terms. Earlier this year, he prevailed 8-1 in Babb v. Wilkie, an important case establishing the rules for federal-sector employer liability under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. He also represented respondents in Barr v. American Association of Political Consultants, persuading the Court to invalidate a portion of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act under the First Amendment. Before joining Latham, Roman was a law clerk to Chief Justice John Roberts and to then-Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of the D.C. Circuit Court. Strathmore Music Center: Coping with Pandemic and Looking Ahead Monica Jeffries Hazangeles, President and CEO of Strathmore Music Center, shares how Strathmore is coping with Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and its plans for reawakening programs going forward. Strathmore presents world-class talent and serves as a launchpad for local artists. It presents nearly 300 events each year at the Music Center and related venues. Ms. Jeffries Hazangeles has helped transform Strathmore from a modest organization into one of the largest multi-disciplinary arts presenters in the state of Maryland.
